How Gullible Are They
AJ Robinson

Well, we’re two weeks out from the election. To quote Ron Reagan: “There you go again.” I mean, I’ve gotten used to some of Trump’s nonsense:

The fantasies of Donald Trump.

Mexicans are rapists and drug dealers, women are pigs and he can do anything he wants to them because he’s a star; unemployment is fifty percent, the economy is in shambles and so on. Trump has called the inner cities war zones, were murders take place on the street, daily; our military is near ruin. Ah, let’s not forget that Hillary is not merely a criminal; she’s coming for our guns and is going to repeal the Second Amendment.

Seems I’ve heard that one about taking our guns before about Obama. It’s that last one and his new tirades, against the media, that have me wondering about his minions. Now he not only says the media is conspiring against him, they’re also out to get his followers, and some members of the media have been harassed while covering his rallies. It just makes me want to ask, “How gullible are his supporters.”

The gun issue thing is almost laughable. Have his supporters forgotten of the dire “warnings” about Obama; how none of them true? Literally, from the day he was inaugurated right wing pundits have been wailing about Obama’s secret plan to take all our guns. The man leaves office in a few weeks; just when is he supposed to implement his master gun-stealing scheme of his? As for the media, really, does it have it in for his supporters? Why? I’m sorry, but this is the height of absurdity. What exactly is their motive for “getting” them?

I truly wonder what’s next for Trump. If he suddenly proclaimed the moon landing a hoax, would they all believe it? What if he said the US had a secret base on the moon and was in contact with aliens for the last several decades, would they believe that? It boggles the mind to think these people will literally swallow anything this man says!

The frustration is palpable.

Now, I understand that they’re frustrated; they feel Washington doesn’t work and it ignores them. Let me point out a few things. USA voters elected Obama in 2001. Then, he and the Democratic Congress accomplished much.

Several important pieces of legislation passed, among them the Affordable Care Act and essentially preventing a second Great Depression. Now, mind you, I said, they accomplished much, but I did not pass judgment on those actions. I leave that for history.

The critical point is there was action. Two years later, the Tea Baggers took over. They made it clear they had one item on their agenda. Oppose the president, at all costs. We’ve been dealing with that for the last six years.

To quote Donald: “What have you got to lose?”

If you’re frustrated with Washington, but you voted those clowns in, I’m sorry, you have no one to blame but yourself. If you want change; if you want action, then vote one party in control. Now, as for myself, I was a life-long republican, but when the party “jumped the shark,” I changed, and I’m voting straight D on the ballot. Good or bad, I just want to see things move forward.

Combining the gimlet-eye of Philip Roth with the precisive mind of Lionel Trilling, AJ Robinson writes about what goes bump in the mind, of 21st century adults. Raised in Boston, with summers on Martha's Vineyard, AJ now lives in Florida. Working, again, as an engineeer, after years out of the field due to 2009 recession and slow recovery, Robinson finds time to write. His liberal, note the small "l," sensibilities often lead to bouts of righteous indignation, well focused and true. His teen vampire adventure novel, "Vampire Vendetta," will publish in 2020. Robinson continues to write books, screenplays and teleplays and keeps hoping for that big break.
