Kim Jung Un vs Trump
Matt Seinberg

On my way home from work, tonight, my father and I were talking about many things. For some reason, my father mentioned the potential visit of President Donald Trump to North Korea. Political talk is okay with my father, but not my other family members, friends or co-workers.

Political talk leads to arguments.

Well, I won’t talk politics with anyone but my father, if I can help it. That’s because, most of the time, an argument erupts. Moreover, it's not worth the effort to rebut stupidity.

I know a few people that are fervent Trump supporters. I simply cannot and will not discuss the President with them. I know my blood pressure will rise. I'll end up getting upset and mad. I just walk away or change the subject.

I'll just state right now that Trump is not my president. I didn't vote for him, and never will. I am a liberal Democrat that has never, and never will vote for any Republican. I admit the Democrats aren't perfect, but what party is?

I truly believe that, had Joe Biden run for President, instead of Hillary Clinton, he would have beaten Trump. Not only is Biden the more qualified person, but losing his son, to brain cancer, would have brought him sympathy votes.

Where are the large tax refund and more money in my pocket that President Trump promised with the tax overhaul? I certainly haven't seen anything in my weekly paycheck and my tax refund certainly didn't reflect it. I can only hope that in the 2020 election, the Democrats take back not only the presidency, but also Congress. Then, I hope, they will repeal all the stupid laws and executive orders that Trump put into place.

Rumbles of a summit.

In the last couple of weeks, there have been rumours and talk flying around that Trump wants to have a détente with the leader of North Korea, Kim Jung-Un. Imagine two egomaniacs, with their fingers on the nuclear buttons, meeting to discuss how to normalize relations between our two countries and the world. Nothing is this scary, at least since the Cuban Missile Crises, in 1962.

If you care to speculate about what would happen, imagine this scenario. After heatedly arguing for hours over whose nuclear button is bigger, they decide to have a duel, just like Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton. The Secret Service panics at such a thought and tries to discourage the president from going through with it. His ego is so huge. He ignores the Secret Service and proceeds to pick the weapon.

Someone offers an antique pistol to each, with one bullet apiece. They waddle twenty paces, turn and fire. Which idiot would go unscathed? With any luck, both will be hit and the world cheers.

That scenario was imaginary.

I can only hope that between now and the next election, the president continues to do stupid things to alienate the voting public, which will, I hope, turn out in droves and vote this incompetent megalomaniac out of office, along with his corrupt cronies in Congress. The presidential election is only two and one half years about, so we can hope and dream until then. Of course, there are the mid-terms in November. Maybe Lin Manual Miranda can write another musical about this fantasy. Would it take place in North Korea or the US?

Somewhat less cynical than dyed in the wool New Yorkers, Seinberg believes those who don't see what he does like reading about what he sees and what it means to him. Seinberg columns revel in the silly little things of life and laughter as well as much well-directed anger at inept, foolish public officials. Mostly, Seinberg writes for those who laugh easily at their own foibles as well as those of others.
